PROVIDENCE RIVER

LILIANA GREYF

Postmodern Miracle’s playing a show tonight
in Olneyville
I won’t go
I’m only lonely in Olneyville

Morning ugh inhale clementines
are tiny I like them skin on
Good party trick
On the balcony George thinks
we could be naked here
But it’s already cold and cold
So they say
I love my body
Go

see Eileen Myles read
Two laps around the river
I’m so tired of the Marxists but
what would we do without them
ugh Eileen didn’t show but everyone
in the audience looked exactly like them

Resolved to try trickery again I hate
my body no no it’s a vessel
I allow myself two cigarettes a year
and smoked them both in the garage

George is sober but drives
like they aren’t Full stop on the I-95
then this fourth kid is he a flirt
or what pretending to forget me

Walk right by as if I’m on mars
And go dancing
if I let my arms
go does it look like I’m letting
my arms go

Everyone out the window except me
I had fearful parents
Lean my top half out and smoke ugh
Looking hard for a river or someone to follow
for the next 30 years
